Mill To Mall: Historic Space Reimagined

March 6, 2022 - July 29, 20222

Watch the Mill to Mall documentary

9 minutes
In our exhibition’s feature video, historians Erica Donnis and Vincent Feeney explain the transformation of Winooski and the Champlain Mill after American Woolen Mill closed in 1954. Local business owners Anne and Ted Castle (Chessy’s Frozen Custard and Rhino Foods) and Renee Reiner and Mike DeSanto (Book Rack and Phoenix Books) share their memories and experiences with starting businesses in the Champlain Mill. Local resident Monica Farrington adds her recollections of taking dance classes and shopping in the historic space.

The Heritage Winooski Mill museum is a proud participant in the City of Winooski’s Centennial Celebration. Happy 100th birthday, Winooski!

Mill to Mall is made possible by a Vermont Cultural Recovery Grant from the Vermont Humanities Council and the generous support of Physician’s Computer Company. We extend our grateful thanks to the many people and organizations who shared memories, photographs, and more.
