Why Support the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum?
The Mill Museum is a special place that holds special meaning to many people. About 2500 people visit annually and participate in our programs for a wide range of reasons.
To connect with the past:
People visit our gallery to learn more about relatives who worked at American Woolen Mill or other textile mills in New England. School groups participating in our educator led programs gain a deeper understanding of the industrial revolution and its impact on our society.
Your support will help us build and install our much anticipated Investigating Child Labor exhibit. The exhibit will also include information about child labor issues today- both in the US and globally- and offers suggestions on how visitors can be more informed consumers and ways they can take action.
Students from Stowe Elementary gifting Welcome Blanket quilts (including ones that their class made) to local Refugees
To connect with neighbors:
Our exhibitions, such as the Welcome Blanket project, inspire visitors to share family stories about work and immigration. Exhibitions about recent history such as Mill to Mall engage the community to reminisce. Stories help individuals from diverse backgrounds build connections and find common ground.
Funding for 2026 will support community outreach programs such as the Winooski Fiber Fair, and allow us to plan future exhibits and community art projects, like our Natural Dye project this past summer.
New American seniors and their grandchildren learning to sew at our Story Quilt workshop
To build an inclusive community:
Our programs for Refugees, such as our Stitch Together knitting program, help our newest community members gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for their new home, and build a sense of belonging.
Your support helps sustain our Stitch Together program and allows us to continue offering weaving workshops and fiber arts classes for Refugees and New Americans.
