Hidden Gems May 9- May 14, 2019.

Hidden Gems was a collaborative project between nine art students at Winooski High School and the Mill Museum. Students were invited to evaluate the Mill Museum’s permanent collection and respond to it by developing artwork and curating their own exhibit. The students were inspired by a 1913 vintage postcard in which the message stated Winooski is “not a very pretty place.”

With the guidance of art teacher Jessica Bruce, students created paintings and accompanying postcards written in their native languages. Through Hidden Gems, students shared a contemporary view of Winooski and the places in their community that hold a special meaning to them, but may not be known to passerby.
