In this workshop, students will participate in discussions and group activities that will bring this novel to life.

Prerequisite:  Prior to the workshop, participating students are required to read Lyddie by Katherine Patterson, an engaging historical fiction novel set in 1843, about a ten-year-old girl from Vermont who must leave her family farm to work at a tavern. Lyddie eventually finds her way to Lowell, MA to work at a textile mill.

Participants are also encouraged to attend a performance of “Mill Girls” at Saint Michael’s College before or after the workshop. “Mill Girls” is an original musical production based on Lowell MA mill workers in the 1800’s.  Performances at Saint Michael’s college are free. Show dates are Nov. 2, 3,4,10,11. All performances start at 7pm.
